1984 Schwinn Mesa Runner

1984 Schwinn Mesa Runner
Build date: February 2026
Purpose: City bike / Grocery getter
Build hours: ~40
Saved from the scrap heap. Marketed as an all-terrain bike with wide 26" × 2.125" tires. It needed a good amount of cleaning and some tuning. While the paint has seen better days, the bike has been maintained well.
Original made-in-Japan components include SunTour alloy cranks, front and rear derailleurs (the rear was upgraded to Shimano SIS by a previous owner), brakes, and pedals. I converted it into a city bike with new 1.5" tires and tubes, a suspension seatpost, a taller stem, slimmer aluminum handlebars and pedals, and comfy grips and saddle. It makes for a great ride to the farmers market.
